Johnny provided an excellent service with what proved to be a bigger job than was anticipated. He was careful to explain exactly what they were doing & provided detailed before & after photos to confirm. He always kept me informed of their schedule & his team of men were considerate & helpful. I would not hesitate ro recommend him for roofing work & also more general building work, with which he is also experienced & knowledgeable.

This company has done three separate repairs for us. Jonathan is reliable and gives detailed information about the work needed. He explained unfamiliar terms and provided photos of the work carried out as we were unable to see the work area from the ground. We would recommend him for any roofing work.

Johnny, Henry and the team were fantastic. They repaired our soffits, fascias, gutters, some windows, replaced a number of roof tiles, a couple of locks, did external painting of the whole house and some internal rendering & painting. All was done to a very high standard with great attention to detail. Nothing was too much trouble. At all times the guys were punctual, polite and helpful and we were kept well informed of progress throughout. An excellent service - thank you! Leisa G-N

Excellent service from Johnny and his team. Good communication and understanding on the initial survey and quote. Great work by his professional and courteous crew, with constant updates verbally and with photos as the work progressed. They made sure the site was clean and safe each evening and especially on the last day. As a client I was kept up-to-date by Johnny at all stages, and that drives confidence. I would very happily recommend 'Tonbridge Defender Roofing Services' for any and all roofing works, and would defenitely use them again.

Excellent workmanship. Johnny is such a friendly, professional man with a great team. Work carried out quickly and no mess left behind. Couldn't ask for more

Finding the leak

Water gets into a house through a small number of places, and the spot where it comes through the ceiling is almost never the spot where it got in. That is the whole job. A tile that has slipped an inch, a split in the lead where a chimney meets the slope, a ridge gone soft after a windy week, a valley silted up with five autumns of leaves. Johnny works back from the stain inside to the hole outside, and he photographs every part of it on the way, because a roof is the one part of a house the person paying for the work cannot see for themselves. Most people have never seen their own roof from closer than the pavement, so the photographs do the explaining. Then the price arrives in writing with the pictures attached, and if two things are wrong he will tell you which one is letting the water in and which one can wait until next year.

He is a builder and a roofer, and he learned it the long way round. Growing up in rural Spain he built a house with his father and two brothers before he ever worked on one for money.

Johnny's offer

Free roof check

Johnny goes up, looks properly and photographs what he finds, so you see your own roof, probably for the first time since you bought the house. If it is sound he tells you so and leaves it alone.

Your town, your number, and a picture of the problem if you can get one.

A picture of the ceiling, or of the roof from the garden, tells Johnny more than a phone call does.

Johnny is up on roofs through the day, so he reads these in the evening. You will hear back that night or first thing the next morning.

His three biggest call-outs

A loft interior with exposed rafters and foil-faced membrane

Roof leaks and repairs

The spot where water comes through a ceiling is almost never the spot where it got in. Finding the difference is most of the job.

Roof leaks and slipped tiles
The grey membrane surface of a flat roof

Flat roofs

Felt, EPDM and GRP fibreglass, on garages, extensions and dormers. Standing water and a split seam are different problems with different answers.

Flat roofs, repaired or replaced
Johnny was incredible. When quoting he took the time (almost an hour across two evenings) to diagnose the problem. He worked hard throughout and is fantastic at documenting the work with photos. He even went above and beyond, changing a roof tile and some dodgy work done by a previous builder. Good, honest, hardworking roofers are difficult to find and in the future we will not hesitate to call him.
